We are looking for keen and active people to join our busy volunteer brigade. We support fire brigades and other services across Auckland at a wide range of emergencies. We provide support services: we do not engage in hot fire-fighting.

About Volunteering with us
Training Night: 2nd and 3rd Monday Nights of each month, 7pm. Incident Types: Structure and House Fires, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Weather-related calls. Number of Calls: An average of 650 per year. See also Call Statistics. Frequency of Calls: 2-3 per day. Coverage Area: Greater Auckland (Wellsford in the North, to Mercer in the South, Coast-to-Coast)

Members come from wide and varied backgrounds reflecting the diversity of Auckland. They also bring experience to the Brigade from their professional careers which include, for example, geotechnical engineer, NZ Police communicator, insurance broker, airline cabin crew, lecturer, truck driver, supply chain manger, accountant, and graphic designer.

Being a member of our brigade is quite a commitment which requires serious thought before joining us. As volunteers we attend callouts 24x7, sharing the workload as and when available. You will need to attend a minimum number of emergency incidents each year to maintain competency. More important is availability to attend training evenings twice a month, sometimes at weekends, and to help out with brigade events and fund-raising.

Observer Programme

We run an 'Observer' programme providing an opportunity over 6-8 weeks for prospective members to get an understanding of the type of incidents we attend , our duties and the type of commitment and time that you would need to be able to offer. We have an intake of Observers 3-4 times during the year, with 4-6 Observers in each group.
We supply observers with reflective clothing, helmet and radio equipment which enables them to attend calls. At the end of the programme suitable candidates are invited to apply for membership and join us as trainees.

A few basic requirements that you would need to be able to confirm are:

• Availability on Monday nights for meetings and training (not every week, but regularly)
• A full NZ drivers licence (Class 2 heavy vehicle licence can also be beneficial)
• A permanent NZ resident
• A vehicle available to attend fire calls and training
• The ability to speak and understand fluent English
• A clean police record

We do expect potential members to be clear and open about their intentions and only apply if genuinely interested and able to volunteer and attend calls.
