Our brigade celebrated its 90th anniversary last night following the Annual General Meeting. Members heard a short history of the Fire Police/Operational Support, at the end of which it was emphasised that for 90 years it had been the members who had been at the forefront. And that since 1933 they have all followed in the tradition of the founders, serving in the highest ideals as volunteers. Our Patron, David Neil, observed that this brigade has flourished while many other Auckland volunteer brigades had faded away over the years. He puts our continuing success down to top leadership down the decades, continual re-purposing to meet changing times - and a dedicated willingness to serve the community. Supper followed, the star of which was the 90th anniversary cake aptly decorated with the 1933 Fire Police cap-badge and the 2023 FENZ logo. As is seen in the photo above, cutting the cake was a joint effort by past and present executive officers, from left - present Deputy Chief Fire Officer Ross Bay, former Chief Fire Officer Jim Smith, present Chief Fire Officer Glenn Teal, former Deputy Captain John Pendelton and former Divisional Officer, Ric Carlyon.
