The Unit has five new full members. At the monthly meeting CFO Glenn Teal announced that the five - Philip Collis, Mark Foster, Paul Halverson, Stuart Taylor and Shaun Williams - had met all requirements for promotion and four were presented with their blue operational helmet. (Shaun Williams was absent, returning from duties at the international Road Crash Rescue Challenges in Upper Hutt). The recruits had attended a recent session for assessment on core Fire Police competencies as part of their qualification towards full member status. The drills included sinking/shipping a standpipe, establishing water supply, use of hose-ramps, generators, portable lighting plant and traffic management. Exercises were followed by question-and-answer sessions on each of the competencies. The results of both practical tests and exams were combined with feedback from Officers and records of attendance at callouts and training. All five probationers graduated.
