News Story
About half-way through the weekend our brigade has responded to 7 calls since Friday evening. In unprecedented pattern, they have come in twos and threes at the same time, including two simultaneous Second Alarm calls this morning.
The run of turnouts began on Friday at 11pm with a Second Alarm shop fire in Symonds Street, Eden Terrace. Members had no sooner set up support services when there were two further calls, to a motor vehicle accident in Manurewa and another, simultaneously, at Glenbrook in South Auckland.
The string of incidents kept our people busy into the small hours including an alert at Auckland International Airport and then later in the morning, a fire in a railway wagon in Penrose followed by a Second Alarm turnout to a house fire in Takapuna. Members closed surrounding streets while fire-fighting operations continued. The house was left badly damaged. Tonight's call was in Neilson Street, Onehunga, a 2 car motor accident. The cross-town route was busier than usual because of the international Rugby League match staged at nearby Mt Smart Stadium. Members assisted with traffic management.
