A blaze swept through an apartment block under construction among Hobsonville housing developments early today, prompting a third alarm response. The whole of the 3-storeyed site was on fire with all initial firefighting undertaken from the street: the roof crashed in falling several floors at the height of the blaze. Multiple high-pressure monitors were used plus hose-lines to contain the fire which was so hot it melted traffic lights more than 10m from the building. Members carried out a range of duties to support firefighters' work, including closing some surrounding streets.
