News Story
Retiring Chief Executive of the United Fire Brigades' Association, George Verry, was formally farewelled at a function last night, hosted by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon Peter Dunne, in Parliament's Grand Hall. George joined the UFBA 9 years ago and immediately set about reforming the Association's finances. He has introduced personal development programmes for fire-fighters and he spearheaded volunteer advocacy during the major reform of the fire services, culminating in the recently-introduced Fire and Emergency New Zealand. Tributes recognising George's attributes and sterling service flowed last night from the Minister, from UFBA Chairman Rick Braddock and past Chairman Peter Drummond. Also present were former UFBA Board Members Jane Huria and Ric Carlyon, the sub-committee which interviewed George for the position in 2008 and recommended his appointment.
