The remains of the car that collided head-on with a truck in Mt Wellington; 3 people extricated.

Two motor accident calls got the Unit going early on Saturday morning. The first was just after 3am to a car crashed into a power pole in Manurewa, as a result of which the car became involved in fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire, and Operational Support personnel assisted in maintaining road closures while the power lines were made safe and Police Serious Crash undertook an investigation. This was a long duration job with members in attendance for 3 hours.

Barely had people returned to their homes, when there was a call to a car vs truck on Great South Road in Mt Wellington. This was a head-on collision with three people in the car badly trapped. Great South Rd was completely blocked, and Operational Support personnel established road blocks at both ends of the incident. This was mercifully only a one hour incident for our brigade, as a couple of members had already been in attendance in Manurewa and were by now looking forward to some sleep!

By the middle of the morning, members were again on the road, this time to a house fire with persons reported in Glen Innes. Everyone was out safely, and the fire was quickly extinguished, so Operational Support personnel were able to be quickly stood down from this call.
