Explosion and Fire: New Windsor
4 July 2017
The explosion all but demolished the house
Debris, including part of a wall, was flung 30 m. into the neighbouring house

A violent explosion, followed by a fierce fire, destroyed a house in Mary Dreaver Street, New Windsor, this morning. An occupant of the house said he turned on a light switch just after 6am and the whole house in Mary Dreaver Street exploded: all the walls blew out, the roof was flung into the neighbour's garden and the back wall was hurled 30 meters against an adjacent house. Two occupants escaped the debris with burns and were taken to hospital. Firefighters used multiple hose-lines to get the fire under control. Neighbours thought the explosion was a bomb or a plane crash, others said their house shook like an earthquake. Our members provided a range of support services: traffic management, lighting, scene safety and rehydration for firefighters
