A New Beginning
1 July 2017
New law, new organisation, new name, new logo...

A new era for New Zealand's fire services begins today with reform, consolidation and an acknowledgement of the wide range of non-fire emergencies firefighters attend. There's also tangible recognition of the role volunteers play. From today Fire and Emergency New Zealand is the new organisation responsible under recently passed law to bring together urban and rural brigades, career and volunteer firefighters plus support, fire safety education, fire investigation and, in some cases, enforcement of safety rules. Transition from the New Zealand Fire Service is expected to take some years. Meantime it's business as usual for our brigade, and even though some 40 former rural entities have been incorporated in the new Fire and Emergency New Zealand, we expect to retain our record as the biggest and busiest volunteer brigade in New Zealand.
