New Lynn Flood - 2
12 March 2017

Road closures, mainly Great North Road between New Lynn shops and Titirangi Road, have kept members busy since early afternoon. Floodwaters forced the road to be closed, meaning the main East-West route was cut with severe traffic congestion as motorists were directed around the danger zone. In all, 22 members responded to assist during the afternoon with all 4 Operational Support vehicles on site, including the mobile canteen to provide refreshments. Main duties were traffic management: road blocks and diversions surrounding the lake that formed across Great North Road. At one stage nearby Bunnings store was evacuated when it was feared raging floodwaters may have damaged the building. It was a 7 hour stint for our members until this evening when a commercial traffic management company took over. They will keep Great North Road closed while engineers assess damage.
