Second 3rd Alarm in 24 hours
25 February 2017
The building on fire was surrounded by a 6m fence, a reminder of its previous occupants
Today's third alarm response - the second for Auckland firefighters within about 24 hours - destroyed a two-storied structure at Kingseat, situated in the grounds of the former psychiatric hospital. The building used to be a secure unit for some of the most seriously ill patients, but until today's fire the ground floor was set up for Paint War Games. Members provided lighting and refreshments for firefighters, including breakfast served at the mobile canteen. It was more or less a replay of support duties at yesterday morning's early morning blaze in the tech block at Long Bay College, where we were joined by colleagues from Silverdale Operational Support.
