Flames pour out of the Housing Corporation flat in Remuera
Firefighters getting to work at the fire, its cause now regarded as suspicious
Fire Investigators and Police are looking into a suspicious fire which late yesterday morning gutted a flat in Ingram Road, Remuera. Firefighters responding to a host of 111 calls found one of two adjoining flats well alight. In addition there were reports that someone may have still been in the burning building, but a search revealed no one was at home at the time... in either flat. Hardly were the flames extinguished than police began inquiries. Members closed surrounding streets during firefighting operations and provided initial scene protection.
