News Story
Mid-morning our Brigade was called to assist at a chemical hazard incident on farmland near Auckland International Airport at Mangere. Agriculture chemicals had been found in a disused shed... firefighters from the Airport and South Auckland stations set out to identify and remove the hazard. Members set up traffic management to protect the scene and to provide refreshments in the warm summer temperatures: heat relieved somewhat for those personnel who went through decontamination processes. In the afternoon there was a turnout to a factory fire in East Tamaki where operations were short-lived, fortunately, because as members were packing up they were paged to attend a motor vehicle accident in Penrose Road. It was a head-on crash. Firefighters extricated 2 people from one of the cars... these and another person were taken to hospital. Members assisted at the scene and maintained road blocks until relieved by traffic management contractors.
