Two Calls in Quick Succession
29 January 2015
Rescuers swarm around the 4WD in Ponsonby trying to free the crushed man
Morningside Station is deserted, trains stopped, following this evening's fatal accident

The Brigade attended 2 serious incidents this evening - the first in Ponsonby, the other at Morningside. At 5pm in Ponsonby a runaway truck from a construction site struck a man, crushing him and pinning him against a 4WD vehicle. Members closed Pollen Street between Crummer Road and Williamson Avenue to allow rescue operations and subsequent police investigations. The man received serious injuries. Just as members were leaving this incident there was a turnout about 7pm to the Morningside Railway Station where a man had been hit by a west-bound train. Again members effected road closures on Morningside Road, provided scene protection and assisted firefighters carry rescue equipment along the track to attempt to rescue the man, trapped under the first carriage. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
