Piha Road Accident
18 December 2014
Last night's accident scene on Piha Road

In the 3rd long-duration job this week, members assisted at a motor vehicle accident on the Piha Road in Waitakere Ranges last night. It occurred early in the evening during squally, stormy weather which crossed Auckland. The driver of the car, the sole occupant, was taken to hospital for examination, having escaped from her overturned car. Members and personnel from Waiatarua Volunteer Fire Brigade set up an alternating flow (Stop/Go) system to keep the road open since it's the only route to and from Piha. However, some holdups were necessary while the car was salvaged and, later, while absorbent material was spread on a section of the road to soak up an extensive oil spill.
