Members put in multiple road closures mid-afternoon at a hazardous situation in Mt Eden after workmen pierced a gas pipe. Busy Mt Eden Road was closed at St Leonards Road and Duke Street while Landscape Road was also blocked by Fire Police until Vector staff arrived, excavated, found the damaged pipe and clamped it, preparatory to repairs. Meanwhile, the leak roared as it gushed out the hole and vented to the air. All traffic and pedestrians were diverted. The all-clear was given in time for roads to be reopened for evening peak-hour traffic.
