This afternoon's Penrose accident: a light van ran into the back of laden truck
Rescuers, having cut the windscreen off, swarm around one of the trapped victims

The Brigade's averaged 2 calls a day this week with several emergencies benefiting by traffic management duties provided by our members. Malone Road in Mt Wellington was closed because of a house fire where people were rescued. In Scenic Drive, Waiatarua, traffic was managed after a two car accident on Monday, followed by major road closures on and around Nielson Street, Te Papapa late on Tuesday night. The next evening we attended a collision in one of Howick's main streets and on Wednesday night put in road blocks surrounding a serious fire in a block of flats in Henderson. Traffic patterns in the area had been already changed because the North West motorway was closed by road works, and when Edmonton Road was closed there were further complications, disruption and more delays. Members worked to clear long tail-backs. Today's accident at the intersection of Church Street, Hugo Johnson Drive and O'Rorke Road in Penrose also altered traffic patterns - this time throughout the evening commute. Two persons, seriously hurt, were cut free from a mangled van after it ran into the back of a truck. Members assisted at roadblocks until the wreckage was cleared.
