Our Brigade was represented at the funeral in Hamilton this morning of former Fire Commander Emrys Evans, QFSM, who died aged 88 at the weekend. Emrys emigrated with his family from Wales in 1928. In 1953 he joined East Coast Bays Volunteer Fire Brigade and then served in many North Island brigades after he had chosen the Fire Service as his career. He retired in 1977 as Commander, Waikato. Emrys was very much involved in the United Fire Brigades' Association having served in practically every office in the organisation and its affiliates, including President and Chairman of the Benevolent Trust Fund. Until this year he had attended every UFBA annual conference for 55 years. Emrys made his Last Call aboard Cambridge Fire Brigade's 1938 Ford V8 appliance.
