Wrong Way! OSU managed "trapped" vehicles exiting the closed motorway via the on--ramp

The Brigade was called this afternoon to assist at a fatal truck accident on State Highway 20, the South Western Motorway, where it passes through Mt Roskill. A rubbish trick travelling South between Dominion Road and Hillsborough Road lost control and rolled several times. The driver died as a result. Debris and rubbish strewn over the roadway meant police closed the motorway in both directions, just at the onset of the evening rush hours. Members assisted with traffic management at multiple intersections, directing flows through Mt Roskill streets around the closure and, at one stage, rescuing vehicles trapped on the closed motorway. This meant u-turning cars, trucks and buses, one by one, and directing them back so that they exited the "wrong way" through the usual on-ramp at Dominion Road interchange. All tasks wound up at nine o clock when the motorway reopened.
