The ducting housing the underground cable: foam residue remains
Members have been involved in a long-duration overnight operation at a fire within Transpower's Penrose electricity sub-station. Flames issuing from underground ducting prompted a second alarm turnout. Cable in the ducting was found to be on fire, the situation worsening because the cable is filled with oil under pressure. Firefighters used foam to extinguish the blaze. Until damage can be assessed by engineers Vector says some 80,000 electricity consumers are without power in Auckland's eastern areas between Mt Eden, Sylvia Park and including waterfront suburbs. Members were engaged in numerous duties during the long-duration including ICP, traffic, transporting personnel, canteen and decontamination.
