6 Calls Overnight: Storm and Fires
15 August 2014

High winds and occasional squalls experienced across Auckland overnight resulted in 4 calls for the Brigade. The gusty westerly brought down a number of trees and power lines and members responded to calls for assistance in Hillsborough, Manurewa, Mt Albert and Onehunga. Duties were road closures and scene protection in the interests of public safety until linemen and arborists arrived. In addition there were 2 fires. The first of the evening was at Pukekohe, a blaze in a garage involving hazardous materials necessitating evacuation of local residents. The second fire involved a house at Albany Heights, a second alarm. Combined with the other weather calls it meant we had the rare occurrence of 3 of our vehicles committed at once.
