Weekend Ends With a Flourish
11 August 2014
Fire damage to a bedroom in the Campbells Bay house

An otherwise quiet weekend concluded with 4 calls for the brigade within 12 hours. Yesterday's mid-afternoon house fire in Henderson began the busy period. It quickly became a likely crime scene needing traffic management and scene protection. An evening turnout to Runciman was next to a persons-trapped motor accident where a car had gone off the road into a pole. Fortunately the trapped driver wasn't badly hurt and, once freed by fire-fighters, walked to the ambulance. Then it was a house fire in Otara where it was thought people were still inside the burning building. All were later accounted for, but one occupant was taken to hospital with severe burns. The last call in the series was also a second-alarm turnout, to a 2 storeyed house in Campbells Bay. It appeared the chimney and roof void were involved, soon dealt-to by North Shore firefighters.
