Motorists in Mt Wellington and Panmure may have wondered about the clusters of Fire Service personnel on the roads of their neighbourhood at various stages this weekend. With the management of road traffic a significant part of our duties, this key skill was the focus of a busy weekend on the part of the training team. With assistance of SGT Tim Lockwood of the New Zealand Police, brigade members both new and experienced were all put through a full day of traffic control training with three key areas covered: Points Duty, Hoseramp Management and Stop-Go signal use. These frequently-used abilities are key to ensuring the safety of both the public and our emergency-services colleagues when working on or near the roadway.
