4th Alarm Factory Fire at Otara
4 July 2014
ASO Pat Robinson makes a splash during salvage operations at the 4th Alarm
Today's lunchtime blaze in a South Auckland factory had fire-fighters busy for more than 4 hours until the last of the flames were extinguished. It began in a bitumen tank and spread into the premises of Thermakraft, a factory making insulation and underlay products. One end of the building was destroyed but fire-fighters, using 4 jets from aerial appliances, multiple ground monitors and many hoselines, managed to cut the flames off saving the greater part of the factory. Members closed surrounding roads, served meals from the mobile canteen and carried out salvage, minimising water damage to offices and parts of the factory and stock left undamaged by fire.
