News Story
Our members have responded to six calls during tonight's stormy conditions. The first was to a large tree which blew down, engulfing a car and blocking all 4 lanes on Great North Road, Waterview. The driver of the car was lucky... the tree collapsed right in front of him and, unavoidably, he ploughed into the branches, the car becoming jammed in the foliage. But fortunately the weight of a main branch was taken by the car's roof above the rear window and the driver was uninjured. Members closed Great North Road until arborists arrived and a traffic management company took over. At the same time other members answered a call further along Great North Road between New Lynn and Kelston where a car collided with a wall. We also responded to Whitford where a power pole was on fire and a road closure required, to power wires down in Murrays Bay and Favona and a large tree across the road at Mt Albert.
