Fire among the Kiwi Fruit
12 May 2014
Saving a long walk... temporary access through the bamboo
A mid-morning call and members were asked to assist at a rural call near Kumeu. The fires, in piles of bamboo clippings between rows of kiwi fruit vines, created a smoke nuisance for passing motorists early-on and then traffic management was required during water tanker operations. The Canteen responded and provided lunch-time meals for fire-fighters, some of whom had travelled from as far afield as Kaukapakapa. Activities wound down mid-afternoon. With tall bamboo hedges surrounding the property an innovative approach was required to gain access for fire-fighting.
