News Story
... and all before breakfast! 3 morning calls had members busy today. A suspicious fire in a Scout Den at Henderson severely damaged some of its structure and contents, though fire-fighters can be credited with a good save. A car-versus-power pole crash in Glen Innes brought live wires down across the road: members undertook traffic management until the scene was made safe. Then the Brigade was on the road again, to the site works for the Waterview tunnel where 1,000 litres of hydrochloric acid had been spilled within a contained area. A gas cloud formed and drifted across Avondale residential areas: police closed surrounding streets. The situation drew a major response from emergency services, civil defence, pollution control and the contractors for the billion dollar tunnel project. Our members staffed the mobile canteen on site, preparing meals for fire-fighters until late afternoon. And while the Waterview event was in progress we attended a persons-trapped motor vehicle accident near Patumahoe in South Auckland.
