A windy weekend awaits...
14 March 2014

Civil Defence and Emergency Services have been busy over the last few days, preparing for Cyclone Lusi - which is now bearing down on Northland and due to hit most of the North Island tomorrow, with heavy rains and wind gusts beyond 120km/h in the forecast. Auckland Operational Support are also operating at an elevated alert level, with crews standing by to assist across the region.

In amongst all of this, the call count for Friday stands at 4; we turned out as part of a HAZMAT response in Otara, were heavily engaged at a 3rd alarm fire below a large apartment block in Auckland CBD right on rush hour, and simultaneously assisted with the rescue of a horse trapped in mud in Westgate. Then, just before 11pm we finished the day with well-involved classroom fire in Pakuranga.
