An array of the community's emergency, rescue and medical services demonstrated their vehicles, equipment and skills at today's Staying Alive Expo at the Cloud on Auckland's waterfront. Crowds thronged the wharf all day to watch fire safety demonstrations, coastguard rescues in the harbour, Urban Search and Rescue experts using special saws to cut through concrete like butter and the opportunity to look over the Navy's Inshore Patrol Vessel, Hawea. Members combined with Silverdale counterparts to provide support services: safety and security during demonstrations, traffic management and a team who prepared meals on the mobile canteen. A task added at the last minute engaged some members assisting with the Junior Combat Challenge: the kids' chance to do what real firefighters do!
