Serious motor accidents early this morning blocked direct access for traffic from the city to both Auckland International Airport and to South Auckland's major hospital. The South-Eastern Motorway was closed to south-bound traffic at Walmsley Road meaning a detour for all motorists on their way to the airport from the city. At the same time members were called to the other serious crash, blocking access to Middlemore Hospital. A vehicle had left the approach road to the hospital, mounted the footpath, skittled a row of posts, overturned and skidded on its roof across the road on to the opposite footpath. The driver was taken the short distance across the forecourt to the hospital. Members later put in Stop-Go traffic management much to the relief of Middlemore staff- members, out-patients, buses and visitors.
