3rd Alarm Factory Fire
15 December 2013
Today's factory fire near Wharf Road, Te Atatu

Fire in burning wooden pallets which spread to a nearby building is being blamed for this afternoon's major 3rd alarm blaze at Te Atatu. 10 hours later, and fire-fighters are tonight still on the scene putting out hot-spots in the fertiliser factory. Some firefighters had to be decontaminated after they came into contact with chemicals, while Council officials are in the area checking storm-water drains in case of pollution in run-off from the fire-damaged factory. Members provided traffic management, security and fireground duties while those staffing the mobile canteen were kept extra busy rehydrating fire-fighters working on one of the hottest days of summer so far.
