This weekend's annual United Fire Brigades' Conference got off to a friendly start when all those attending were given warm greetings from the entire Host Brigade, Auckland Operational Support. Decorations at the Welcome Dinner on Friday night comprised the brigade's branding: distinctive yellow jackets, blue helmets and traffic signs used at emergencies. The theatrical grand entrance by our members was applauded from the moment it began, followed by welcoming remarks from Chief Fire Officer Glenn Teal and a fast-moving video showcasing the Brigade and its activities. Then a surprise. The United Fire Brigades' Association formally acknowledged our 80th anniversary by presenting the brigade with a plaque and a certificate...and, less formally, with the presentation of a birthday cake.
