A Real Rubbish Call
29 October 2013
The overturned trailer and the trail of rubbish blocking the roadway
Today's long-duration call in streets leading to the Onehunga On Ramp for SH20 was really about a load of rubbish. A truck and trailer unit carrying household rubbish went out of control negotiating the Southbound On Ramp. The trailer struck the guard rail, bounced off, overturned, spilling some of its 20 tonne load, strewn across the roadway. Members closed surrounding rstreets and took up point duty at 4 intersections to clear an initial backlog, then maintained traffic management for 5 hours while the vehicle was salvaged and the road cleared of the smelly rubbish. Among motorists inconvenienced were those heading to the Airport. A detour was signposted.
