High-Rise Specialist Honoured

Aerial appliances honouring Kevin James Nickless' memory

The late Kevin Nickless was the man to turn to when it came to servicing and fixing aerial fire appliances. There wasn't much about the workings of a turntable ladder, a Snorkel or an Aerialscope that Kevin didn't know about after years of working with these high-reach machines at the workshops in Otahuhu. So it was fitting that fire-fighters mounted their own salute to Kevin's long association with these specialist appliances when they arranged an elevated arch through which Kevin travelled as he made his Last Call. He died this week aged 56. Firefighters also formed a Guard of Honour outside the chapel before the service was held, led by our Brigade's Senior Station Officer, Anglican Bishop of Auckland, Rt Rev Ross Bay.
