3rd Alarm House Fire
13 September 2013
Firefighters make roofing iron safe on the remains of the Glen Eden house.

A large house in Glen Eden, fire pouring out every window, prompted a 3rd Alarm at 5.30 yesterday morning and for our members it turned out to be a long-duration job lasting until lunchtime, some 7 hours. 8 people escaped the blaze. Ironically working in heavy rain, fire-fighters used multiple deliveries to put the fire out which destroyed the house on West Coast Road, scorching trees in a nearby garden and damaging 6 vehicles parked in the grounds. Members maintained a road block at Glengarry Road, and, responding to the morning peak hour traffic build-up, opened West Coast Road to city-bound traffic by placing ramps over essential hoselines. Members also responded in the canteen. It was the 3rd callout for the brigade overnight, and in the course of the long job at Glen Eden there were 2 more calls.
