Members were involved in a long job in West Auckland overnight, closing Piha Road which was blocked by a two-car, head-on, crash. Our Brigade managed a closure on Scenic Drive where about 100 cars queued up awaiting the road to re-open. At the scene of the crash, well towards Piha, other members assisted staffing inner cordons and providing lighting. One occupant in the crash had to be cut from the wreckage and, in a serious conditiion, was taken to hospital by helicopter. Police then made their investigations, the debris was cleared and an oil spillage mopped up. The accident occurred just before 6.30pm... members re-opened the road in both directions and gave the "all clear" about 11.30 pm. The road is sole access to and from Piha, Karekare and coastal districts.
