This Weekend: 6 Callouts
30 June 2013

It has been a busy weekend for the Brigade starting Friday night with a serious motor accident at Narrow Neck on the North Shore where a car collided with a power pole, ploughing into a fence and house. One person was trapped in the wreckage, another 3 injured. Early Saturday afternoon there was a response to a light plane crash near Helensville, but support services were not required. Early Saturday evening a power transformer in Mt Albert "popped" plunging the area, including a supermarket and a busy intersection, into darkness. Members took over traffic control for more than an hour until power was restored. Then, later in the evening, members combined forces with Silverdale Operational Support personnel at a house fire on Dairy Flat Highway. Although the burning building was well off the road, traffic management was required to give fire appliances uninterrupted access while, for more than 3 three hours, they ferried tankloads of water to the fire from Albany township. Just as this job was ending and the highway was being reopened there was a 3rd Alarm turnout to a shopping centre in Mt Wellington which necessitated road closures with hoses across Penrose Road. The blaze was contained. Sunday evening, and members were on the road again, this time to a house fire in Epsom which badly damaged first floor rooms. And just to cap off members' contributions over the weekend there was practical traffic management training for latest recruits at Mt Wellington on both days.
