Released from Springhill Prison Job
2 June 2013
The Unit concluded its involvement this afternoon at the long-duration event arising from yesterday's riot and fires at Spring Hill Prison in North Waikato. Members supported fire-fighters and other emergency services workers overnight with meals and refreshments - welcome in the cold and bleak conditions at the prison. Three shifts of members staffed the canteen continuously for more than 20 hours. The Ablutions Trailer which also responded was not required and returned last night. Early this afternoon the fires were out and Fire Service attendance was reduced to one appliance. The canteen was released to return to Auckland.
