Response to Spring Hill Prison

Members have been at the scene of the disturbance and fires at Spring Hill Prison, North Waikato, overnight and continue to support emergency services at the scene. When the situation escalated to a Greater Alarm early last evening the Unit offered the mobile canteen and the ablutions trailer. A short time later both vehicles were responding. Dozens of meals have been prepared in the canteen situated "inside"... the emergency workers have welcomed hot drinks being continuously available in the cold, damp overnight conditions. Members have been organised in shifts for the long-duration event, the third group left Auckland at daybreak to relieve colleagues at the prison.
