Clendon Park... revisited
11 March 2013

Members turned out to Clendon Park in Auckland's southern suburbs for the third time in as many weeks, but yesterday's fire was by far the biggest and most serious, sweeping through hectares of bush on the Manukau Harbour foreshore. Fire-fighters working from 10 appliances were dealing with several seats of fire so members assisted police to close a number of roads in the suburb, while others helped evacuate dozens of families from houses affected by severe smoke nuisance, including one asthmatic woman who required hospitalisation. The canteen was on the scene and numerous "drink depots" were set up in-the-field to keep firefighters refreshed in the hot afternoon sun. Members stood down after operations lasting more than 4 hours.
