Members blocked off Morningside Drive, Mt Albert, this morning after an accident at the level crossing near the station platform. A woman crossing the railway lines in an electric wheelchair became stuck when the chair's wheels wedged in a gap in the walkway across the tracks. Before the wheelchair could be freed it was hit by a west-bound logging train, together with a woman frantically trying to free the jammed wheelchair. Both the disabled woman and the would-be rescuer were injured. Roadblocks were put in around the scene until police and railway officials completed their on-site inspections and enquiries.
