Second Large Bush Fire
24 February 2013
Saturday night's view of the fire in the Matakana district, North Auckland.

Members have this weekend been helping at their second major bush and scrub fire this week. It's in the Dome Valley area north of Auckland, in rugged country near Matakana. The blaze was reported yesterday afternoon - a big team of firefighters attended but could not douse the flames before nightfall. The attack recommenced at daybreak today, once again with support from helicopters. Members have been preparing meals for the workers from the Brigade's mobile canteen. The first big fire, earlier in the week, was at Tapora on the shores of the Kaipara Harbour. Our Ablutions Trailer is still on site for the use of those fire crews damping down the hot spots, preventing re-ignition.
