16 Members today received recognition for their service in Canterbury immediately following the earthquake that almost 2 years ago devastated Christchurch and environs. 15 members qualified for the New Zealand Fire Service Commission's Earthquake Citation (Dress Distinction) while another was awarded a personal Certificate of Appreciation. The Citation is given to all fire service personnel who responded to Christchurch while search and rescue operations were being undertaken. We sent our canteen and ablutions trailer to Christchurch, staffed for 20 days by 6 teams, assisted by 2 members of Silverdale Operational Support who today also received recognition for their part. Brigade Secretary, QFF Jackie Watson, was awarded her Citation for services with Fire Service administration. Former members John Kerr and Hamish Kyle returned to the fold to collect their awards while one member, SO Chris England, was unavoidably absent, overseas.
