A shipyard workshop, and a 50 meter luxury super-yacht under construction within it, were badly damaged in a major fire in Mt Wellington overnight. Members responded to the fierce blaze in Gabador Place about 1.30am today. The situation soon developed into a 4th Alarm. Members assisted with traffic management, at the control point, canteen, breathing apparatus tender and carried out salvage. Fire involved a massive workshop some 60 meters long and 20 meters high containing the super-yacht under construction. Firefighters found they were tackling a blaze within the incomplete vessel which, when finished, has a guide price of $NZ61 million. Members were on site over a period of 25-and-a-half hours... 25 members attended, clocking up around 120 person-hours.
