News Story

Our four members assisting at the Tasman fire have today moved camp into the "no-go" zone to the area which has become familiar to all New Zealanders because of the wildfire: Teapot Valley. Although still subject to access-control, immediate danger has now passed the Valley and the Aucklanders will be moving into cabins there. They are engaged in logistics at the Incident Management Team's headquarters situated in District Council premises in Richmond, working on a wide range of tasks in support of the fire-fighters and operations. The team's on acquisitions... sourcing essentials from rental vehicles to computers... as well as updating the situation board and inputting data. Latest reports are that the fire's contained but in many places burning underground in stumps and roots, sometimes resurfacing. This requires taxing work by fire crews working with hand tools in the summer heat to expose and extinguish.
Our Brigade will be sending another team to relieve the present quartet. QFF Kevin Stillwell, FF Jack Bryant, TFFs Greg Michaels and Leslea Wallace will travel south on Sunday.
