The Brigade had scheduled two public duties today which were going to keep a number of our members busy. It was Emergency Services' Live Day at the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) which means if you're in the business you better be there. And we were... along with practically every other branch of the emergency services. Our brigade used the annual event to encourage recruits. The other event was on the other side of town: Howick's Summer Festival. Duties there were traffic management and scene safety. It was all we could do to keep at least one of our members from Mahon's Amusements' latest kids' ride, the Wattman train! Now those two events kept us busy in the hot summer heat. But there was more to come. Mid-afternoon we were paged to "power lines down" in busy Market Road, Remuera which, in the interests of public safety had to be closed to all traffic. Several intersections were cordoned until the Vector staff made the lines safe. There were also 2 other calls during the day but neither came to much.
