Chief Fire Officer Glenn Teal presenting Anthony Sampson with his Brigade Life Member's Medal

The Brigade honoured former-member Anthony Sampson at last night's annual honours evening. Chief Fire Officer Glenn Teal announced that Brigade members unanimously supported Anthony being made a Brigade Life Member for his service. Anthony retired earlier this year for health reasons. "This recognises your help over the years at the scenes of emergencies," Glenn Teal said, "and latterly as an radio operator on the Brigade's channel, updating information on our website and as Minute Secretary... all achievements which we did not want to go without suitable acknowledgement. This award, with its medal, is our thanks". Anthony had no inkling that the award was being made. After a standing ovation from his fellows he thanked the Brigade for "the most unexpected gesture". Anthony joined our Brigade some 11 years ago with a break when he served in the Blenheim Volunteer Fire Brigade. He is a fire-buff, a follower of all things "fire", with a particular interest keeping tabs on the national fleet of fire appliances.
