Long Duration Job on SH16
30 August 2018
Occupants of one of the cars were extricated by fire-fighters

Last night's fatal road accident on State Highway 16 at Waimauku proved to be long duration job. Two cars collided head-on: one woman later died of her injuries while others were taken to hospital, some in a serious condition. Members responded to the crash-site at 5.35pm and, at the request of police, assisted closing the road either side of the scene, both inner and outer cordons. When it was apparent members would be attending beyond the usual evening meal-time, other of our members took the mobile canteen, enabling hot meals to be served to emergency services workers. After Serious Crash Unit personnel investigated the crash, the scene photographed, the vehicles salvaged and the road re-opened, members left the scene at 11.18pm - a near 6 hour-long job.
