It's been a day of suspicious fires in Parks Residences, a high-rise apartment block in the inner city. The 32-level complex in Albert Street is still under construction, though most apartments are almost finished, decorated and carpeted. Firefighters were called to a small fire this morning and considered it was "accidental". But they declared a third alarm when they returned to the premises this afternoon, confronted with a number of unexplained fires occurring about the same time on different floors.All blazes are now being probed by detectives and fire investigators. Each fire was extinguished by the building's sprinkler system: water damage will delay occupancy of the affected apartments. Our members closed adjacent streets, organised pedestrians around the building and provided refreshments and other support services.
