Two vegetation fires West of Auckland at the weekend occupied members over many hours. The first, on Saturday near Helensville, was a long duration job and members took both the mobile canteen and the ablutions trailer in support of firefighters. 11 members attended, assisted by Silverdale Operational Support personnel. Activities included providing hot meals and continued into the evening until 10pm. Further firefighting was required on Sunday and the canteen and members, joined this time by the Helensville Operational Support team, were on the ground from early morning until mid-afternoon. Around 11am there was another vegetation fire, this time at Waitakere and a further 6 members responded along with locals from Waitakere Operational Support. Duties on both days included catering, traffic management and working with waterway equipment.
